Ghost Bike Book A white-painted bicycle leans against a post, a few feet away from the spot where a car struck and killed a bicyclist. Flowers decorate the abandoned bike. This is a Ghost Bike, one of over 500 such memorials chained to fences, streetlights, and signposts across the United States. The first time I saw one of these roadside memorials, it inspired and moved me to action. The fragility of human life became a reality. A Ghost Bike is a visible reminder of a careless moment; a reminder of how important it is to keep each other safe in an increasingly fast paced and hectic world. I sought out and photographed Ghost Bikes in every city I visited, and learned that most Ghost Bikes are removed within a few months. I wanted the impact of these memorials to have a greater reach, so I set out on a 6000 mile road trip to photograph as many Ghost Bikes as I could find. This project honors the ones we have lost, the ones who ride, and the ones who fight to make us safe. From this work I created “Don’t Forget Me,” a book that shares my journey and my work. I hope to inspire people to be thoughtful in how they move around each other, on the road and in life. The creation of this book is about inspiring people to move carefully around each other, and allowing fleeting memorials to have a lasting impact. Ultimately my goal is to have these books in the hands of people that will love and appreciate them. For that reason I am selling them for only $20. The book is hard cover with soft touch finish, 10″x10″, and 142 pages. Art books of this quality normally sell for $40-$50. –Genea Barnes Also available: Limited edition Ghost Bike Photographs $50.00 to $325.00 click here for options ________________________________________________________ PRESS: Press Kit Lauging Squid: A Beautiful Book Featuring Images of Memorial Ghost Bikes Average Joe Cyclist: “…review of an important and memorable book by a remarkable photographer.” Bike2Power: Must Read: Don’t Forget Me NY Bike Accident Blog: Photographer Tracks Down Ghost Bikes in Haunting New Book Streetsblog USA: You Won’t Soon Forget These Photos of Ghost Bikes.
